Principal Component Analysis: The Best-Kept Secret in Machine Learning

1/27/20222:00pm EST1 hour
Principal Component Analysis, or PCA, is one of the minor miracles of machine learning. It’s a dimensionality-reduction technique that reduces the number of dimensions in a dataset without sacrificing a commensurate amount of information. While that might seem underwhelming on the face of it, it has profound implications for engineers and software developers working to build predictive models from their data. From visualizing high-dimensional data to performing real-time anomaly detection, PCA is a tool that should be in every machine-learning engineer's toolbox. Learn what PCA is, how it works, and more importantly, how to use it to solve real-world problems, with plenty of code samples to light the way.

Presenter: Jeff Prosise, Chief Learning Officer

Jeff Prosise is an engineer and Chief Learning Officer at Atmosera. He has written nine books and hundreds of magazine articles, trained thousands of developers at Microsoft, and spoken at some of the world’s largest software conferences. His next book, “Practical Machine Learning and AI for Engineers,” will be published later this year. Before turning to software development, he worked on high-powered laser systems and fusion-energy projects at Oak Ridge National Laboratory and Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Jeff’s passion is introducing engineers and software developers to the wonders of cloud computing, AI, and machine learning. In his spare time, he builds and flies large radio-control jets, goes out of his way to get wet in some of the world’s best dive spots, and travels to companies, universities, and research institutions all over the world educating them about AI.
