Favorite Travel Photos

Travel is both a blessing and a curse. On the one hand, it’s great getting to see exotic and faraway places. On the other hand, it hurts to be away from home a lot, and there’s nothing lonelier than sitting in a hotel room all by yourself on the other side of the world wishing you could be home watching your son’s soccer game or your daughter’s piano recital.

Over the years, I’ve been fortunate enough to travel to some really interesting places. I was browsing through some of my old pictures today and decided to pick out my 10 favorite travel photos. The selection criteria were tough. First, I couldn’t choose two photos from the same place. Second, the quality of the photo had to be high. Third, the picture had to be of a truly special location. To complicate matters, I didn’t own a digital camera until 1999, so some of the most memorable places I’ve been, such as Salzburg, Austria and Nice, France, I only have documented in paper photographs. In addition, I’ve been to a lot of places where I was either too harried to stop and take pictures or the weather didn’t cooperate (as in two rainy days I spent in Sydney a couple of summers ago). I made some hard choices and picked out the 10 pictures below. Click a thumbnail to zoom in. Enjoy!
