Has Google Become Too Big?

The European Parliament has passed a new resolution calling for regulations on Internet search providers even recommending that search be separated from other online services.

It seems that Google now finds itself in the crosshairs of the European Union in much the same way that Microsoft did in 2004.  While still dealing with privacy issues sprouting from their “Right to Be Forgotten” policies, Google has taken a direct hit to the heart of their business.  The non-binding resolution passed by the European Parliament doesn’t mention Google specifically but with the strong majority of all search traffic it’s clearly aimed at limiting Google’s ability to promote their own services above competitors in their search results.

What do you think?  If Search is the gateway to the Internet, is it fair to let search providers promote their other services above competitors?  Or is this just a case of the European Union trying to unfairly influence successful US based companies.
