VS 2010 Launches (and video of me!)

Unless your internet connection died today you no doubt heard that a new version of Visual Studio released to the public today. It’s a big release and one most of you will be upgrading to very shortly if you haven’t already. The fact that you can still target existing .NET 2.0 applications with the benefits of all the new improvements is the second most exciting feature. The most exciting feature of all is of course, IntelliTrace. (Make sure to check out Justin Mark’s excellent article about using IntelliTrace in MSDN Magazine for more information.)

As part of the launch festivities Microsoft recorded a video of Steve Borg of Northwest Cadence and I to talk about what we thought of Visual Studio 2010 and Silverlight 4. It was alot of fun to do the video and you get a lot of ammunition to use with your boss to justify the immediate move to VisualStudio 2010. In case you were wondering, Steve is the good looking one and I’m the one with the scruffy beard.

Microsoft also did a casestudy with me on how I use IntelliTrace to debug faster. In paying attention to my day to day development with Visual Studio 2010, I’ve been cutting at least 25% off the normal time I spend debugging. That’s a huge improvement in the one area of development where we’ve been doing things the same way for years. I was kind of surprised Microsoft left the following quote in: “In today’s business climate, companies can avoid that kind of risk and expense by using tools like IntelliTrace. To me, it is the absolute must-have feature in Visual Studio 2010. Everything else is secondary.” Using Visual Studio 2010 without IntelliTrace is like debugging blind.

At Wintellect we are super excited about Visual Studio 2010 and think everyone else will be as well. We are thrilled that it was released in time for our Devscovery conference coming up in New York City, April 27, 28 and 29, so we can do our part to help you do the most with it!
